Hirosaki University Offers Support to Graduate Students Affected by U.S. Policy Change
16.06.2025
On May 22, 2025, the U.S. Department of Homeland Security announced the suspension of Harvard University’s international student admissions program. Since the United States remains the most popular destination for Japanese students studying abroad, this decision has raised concerns among those currently enrolled in or planning to attend U.S. universities.
To support these students and safeguard their educational opportunities, Hirosaki University has decided to accept graduate students from U.S. institutions who wish to continue their studies as regular students in our Graduate School of Medicine (Doctoral Course) and Graduate School of Science and Technology (Doctoral Course).
To ease the application process, we will conduct a special online selection process to minimize the burden on applicants. Additionally, students who meet our established criteria will be eligible for tuition exemptions and financial assistance for living and research expenses through programs such as J-PEAKS, which is the program for Forming Japan’s Peak Research Universities.
Guided by our slogan, “Japan’s Most Student-Friendly University,” Hirosaki University remains committed to supporting passionate students, both domestic and international, who wish to continue their studies despite challenges.
